Can I grab a frame?

In the horribly buggy software I used to use, there was a feature to "grab frame", wherein you could select any frame of a video clip and capture it as a still. I would do that on the last frame of a clip, then add that still for say, 5 seconds or so, to the timeline after the clip to "freeze" the video for titles or effect or whatever. Can you do this with Vegas in some way or another?

Yes! In the upper bar over the preview window there are two icons...one looks like two clipboards and one looks like an old floppy disc. If you hold your cursor over each of them it will tell you one is save snapshot to clipboard and the other is save snapshot to file. Just move your time line to the shot you want and do one of those actions and use the resulting still shot in whatever way you wish. Cheers.

Oh my gosh, so simple!! I really need to read a manual or take a class to take full advantage of this program. Been bumping along for a couple of years just using it in the barest form. Thank you!!

Okay, one more question. I tried to do this, saving each image to file, but when I render, it is putting a black frame around my still images so that grabbed frame is not exactly like the last frame of the video clip. It's smaller. Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or what setting I need to change? It has always done this to the stills I import and intermingle with my video clips, but it never mattered until I was trying to do this.

Set your preview at Best/Full when you take the snapshot.
