Can I make an AMD card work well with Vegas

There seems to be a few threads on video cards and while I currently have VP10d, I will prob upgrade in the next year or less but for now, can I get a graphics card to aid with rendering in VP10 or is it 100% CPU?

I'm really an AMD fan so I have an eye on the 7850 or 7870 and i'm curious if there are plug-ins or drivers to use with Vegas? I hear Nvidea is the card of choice but then I read how some people have much better results with their AMD cards? So now i'm really torn between the 570 and the 7850/70.

If Vegas is more CUDA friendly, how are the AMD cards working so well and sometimes better than the Nvidea?

I have an AMD Diamond Radeon 6970, and it works great for rendering, it will blaze through Vegas Render Test in 34 seconds, if that is any indication for you. Mind you the components in my system are reasonably high end which also contributes to faster renders.

I would like to think that going to 16GB of RAM over 8 may also help...I know the jump from 4-8 made a big difference. Did you try your system on 8GB and if so how did it compare?

Prices will change on the graphics cards within a few weeks so i'm trying to do some homework.

If you plan to use any Adobe stuff (Photoshop, AE, etc), they don't play well with Radeon cards.

I was an ATI fan for a very long time. ATI gave great product support. Its drivers were solid. The company supported their products for many years. Then the company was bought out by AMD and, as far as I am concerned, things went downhill from there.

I get much better results from my NVidia cards than AMD. Using AMD cards with Vegas Pro 11 is like playing a game of dice. You never know what you are going to get. With NVidia cards, I have had nothing but great results.

Are the AMD issues with the drivers or plug-ins or just the cards themselves? If Nvidia just plain works then I may opt for the 570 when prices change but not sure yet.

From what I understand AMD is updating all the time to get back into the swing of things with their cards but the jury is still out on that.

NVidia has the techological advantage over AMD. The computational power of the card along with the CUDA technology makes for a winning combination (I believe the jury is still out on what was done with the 680). But I have tried both the 570 and the 580 in Vegas and never had a problem. I also use the 580 with Premiere Pro and it works like a dream. There are only two AMD cards supported by Premiere Pro and they are the ones versions found in Apple laptops.
