If you have an image showing as well the text, you'll first need to click on the Object tab and change the "Link Type" to "Text only." Then you can get rid of the text and leave the button by the following . . .

Select the Menu button you wish to change. Hit "Edit Text." Hit "Delete" to erase all text.

You will now have a rectangle outlining the original area occupied by the text with a courtesy note from the program saying "No Text." You can resize the rectangle by clicking the tool next to the arrow at the top of the left tool panel.

You can have a graphic be somewhat transparent by using a solid
background color for the thumbnail and menu. The highlight overlay will
show as the "button".

Look for a previous post.

You can with a little effort, use the method above (David's) and have TOTALLY transparent buttons that would respond to an area of a custom background image. For those of you familiar with an image map in HTML, you could have "hot" spots that would respond to a mouse click. The limitation of course would be what shape you could drag the text box to.

Thanks every-one. David's approach seems to be a winner - at least in DVDA preview. Hopefully the final disc will perform the same. The reason I wanted to do this is because I found the quality of the captured thumbnails from video was poor with aliased (noisy) edges. Therefore I would rather prepare the entire image in Photshop where I can control the quality (including text) and only have DVDA make the semi-transparent selection overlays. So far so good. Thanks again. John I
