Can I make the files smaller?

Hi, My name is Scott and I have a small issue with Vegas. I work on my video, edit it, throw in some music, and call it a day. Afterwords I render it to AVI filetype, and to my suprise, an eight minute long video is 1.8 gigabytes! why? And I want to share these videos on a network so obviously the smaller the better. How would I make an eight minute video no longer 1.8 gigabytes, but something more like 20 megabytes?

The data rate of DV video is fixed at about 3.7 megabytes per second, which works out to around 212 megabytes per minute. 1.8 gigabytes for 8 minutes of material is perfectly normal.

You can't make a full-resolution version of your video and get it to fit into 20 megabytes with any sort of quality. As far as making it smaller for distribution on a network, render it up as a Windows Media 9 video. Choose the "512kbps Video" template and that should get you in the ballpark size-wise. Your video will be resized from 720x480 down to 320x240, but it should still look and sound pretty decent. To adjust the filesize further, you can try playing with the audio and video bitrates by hitting the "Custom" button while you're in the Render dialog box.
