can I save photos on the dvd?

I'm trying to help one of our son's teachers out with a project. She videotaped some training sessions, and also has photos, and she'd love me to get everything onto dvds to hand out to the other teachers who were there.

I'm going to put the videos on there, and I thought I'd create a few slideshows from the photos.

She has also asked if there's anyway to simply put a directory on the dvd, containing the photos, so the teachers could have the originals if they want them.

I don't see a way to do that in DVDA. Has anyone ever done that?

thanks

You can include them as a slideshow, or Picture Compliation but you can also include them as files on the DVD.
Put them in a folder & call it something like "Pictures", then place that folder in an "Extras" Folder.
Now under File / Properties / Disc Properties, click "Extras folder" and browse to tell DVBDA where your "Extras" folder is. The DVD will now be burned with an extra folder called "Pictures" or whatever name you like.

An optional twist, create an html catalog in the folder... Not everyone will have the best software installed for viewing pictures, and you can't always count on built-in MAC or Windows solutions. Or maybe put jpg images in 1 folder, & the html catalog (referencing those same pics) in another --- that way some DVD players can still do their slideshow thing, and PC users will be able to browse easily.

Wow, Peter, that's pretty dang cool. I'll try that, and see if I can have a menu option which points to it, in case their dvd player will view photos.

I'm having a different problem, too. I want to test-watch an mpg file on my PC, and I can't. When I double-click an mpg file to test-watch it, Windows Media Player opens but can't play it. The same file plays on my son's computer.

I just assumed that WMP 11 would view mpg files?

MPM, great suggestion! I'm taking baby steps, but I'm going to try to get that in there. I think they'd appreciate that when viewing from a PC.

At its best WMPlayer is poor for mpg2 &/or DVDs... It can play them if/when you have an mpg2 decoder installed that works with WMPlayer, & *when* that decoder has the top priority in Windows [Windows will not automatically use the best decoder, or the one you want it to use]. Generally PowerDVD is a good program for viewing DVDs, mpg2, m2v, and VOB files, and you can pick the OEM versions up on-line for $2 - $3 at software surplus sites.

Alternatively (& for free) a LOT of folks use Vlan, there's a bunch of players at videohelp.com, and there's a new app called Cineplay that might work well. Or if you have Nero their Showtime app is based on Cyberlink PowerDVD code. [If you can still find it the Software Surplus sites also offered an *almost* full version of Nero 6 for around $3, including Showtime & Recode]

Thanks, MPM, great suggestion - I downloaded VLC, and it works smooth as silk! In fact, I was able to use it to convert part of the problem files, deleting the end (which was corrupted).

Nice! Thanks!!!
