Yes you can, but the buyer will not be able to use it to upgrade if you have already done so.

I bought Vegas 4 in 2003 and have upgraded each year. I retain version 4 but have given 5,6,7 to friends and 2 of them have upgraded at special pricing.

Great. Thanks for both replies. It would seem like a good way to spread the word about Vegas! Plus I suppose SCS would get more than one person upgrading each time!

I am surprised at this but if its legit I'm happy,I can keep V9 and sell V8

This is how I got my copy of vp8 and DVDA, for just $125! Of course, I can't upgrade, but that's not a big deal to me. I figure 8 will be all I need for about 5 years. It's a "win-win" for the seller and buyer.

Of course, the owner needs to transfer license.

AFAIK - it is a basic license issue... to have a legit upgrade license then you need to have the original license... so if you sell the original license then the upgrade license is no longer legit.

No, that's not true for SONY's licenses. The only difference between a new purchase and an upgrade is how much you pay for it. If you purchase versions 8 and 9, you have two licenses, one for 8 and one for 9. If you purchase 8 and upgrade to 9, you still have two licenses, one for 8 and one for 9.

SONY is exceedingly generous in this matter!

I was told the same story about not being able to upgrade but as I said both my friends upgraded with no problems.

Right, but each license is good for just one upgrade. So if you use 8 to upgrade, and sell/give it away, the new owner can't use it to upgrade.
