Can no longer view or import MTS files post-upgrad

Hey all,

So I have Vegas 8. I had to reinstall my OS. When done, I had to get Vegas again - so I just downloaded 8.0d Built 139.

Before my OS reinstall, it worked flawlessly. I could see MTS files, edit them view them, drag/drop them, etc. I made a ton of movies.

Now - I can't even see them in the explorer. I can't import. Vegas now seems to refuse to believe they exist.

I have XP Home. Not really sure of my other specs - but again - not sure whay that matters because I was a happy Vegas user for about 2 years on this exact machine.

I do recall something - I couldn't view MTS files in Windows Media Player. I recall - maybe 2 years ago - installing some codec or plugin. I recall someone saying it might be shared across progams. But I have no idea what that was, and don't recall the details. Perhaps I got lucky and installed it, and that's why Vegas worked. Now after the OS reinstall - that element is missing. Any ideas?

Install Vegas Platinum 9, the trial (don't worry, it won't overwrite anything). If Platinum 9 can see .mts files, then it's a Vegas 8 installation problem rather than a Windows/generic-codec one, and in that case, just uninstall and re-install Vegas 8. If not, then make sure you have installed all Windows updates. Vegas does not need an external codec for AVCHD you see, it comes with one built-in, which gets initialized/authenticated when you enter your serial number during the installation.

If nothing helps, but Vegas 9 works, upgrade to Platinum 9.

Back up your Shared Plug-Ins folder first!

Vegas Platinum 9 trial installation has rendered the Help files from other Sony software inaccessible, and uninstalling it may remove plugins from previous installations, requiring re-installation of your other Sony apps.

OTOH, a backed-up Shared Plug-Ins folder can be restored by simply renaming it.
