Hi, The latest pinnacle drivers (v4.5) allow sharing of the firewire card so that you can use the pinnacle tools to capture from the analog box or firewire ports while other dv apps can capture from the firewire ports only.

You can get the 4.5 update from pinnacle (it's 375mb large!) and I've always found that everything works better if I install the pinnacle drivers last. That way you can also test vegas with the firewire portion of the card before installing the pinnacle stuff to make sure that the card itself is working. My experience is with win2k or xp systems, I can't comment on Win98.

good luck, franco

Why would you use the DVD 500. I have it and switched to a simple firewire card, since I didn't see any advantage? Faster rendering?

Hi, I can't speak for '59 but the reason I use the dv500+ is because I do a lot of work with 3/4" footage and (when I bought it) the card was the most cost effective way for me to get analog video into the computer. My dv camera doesn't import analog video and other solutions were out of my budget (this was about two years ago when gear was really expensive [now gear is just expensive!]). The card works very well for connecting to old 3/4 or analog only decks.

Two good things about it: 1) It works with the microsoft, sonic foundry, sony and panasonic dv codecs so any there's no hassle about using old captured material and 2) Sceanlyzer vid cap software can control the analog portion of the card so I don't have to use Premiere at all any more. I would recommend the card to anyone who needed it.

If anyone wants one for REAL, REAL cheap, I have my DV500, with Premier, collecting a LOT of dust in my closet--I see no advantage. I use my ATI all-in-wonder Radeon to capture any older Analog signal (I use my extra Sony Digital8 to capture analog 8 mm tapes).
