Can not create mp4 that streams correctly

Having a problem with Sony Vegas 9.0e

I can not figure out how to create a video mp4 file that steams correctly on a web page. I am using JWPlayer to play back the video on a web page. For some reason, it has to load the entire video before it starts playing.

I have tried the MainConcept AVC and the Sony AVC Codec and they both do the same thing. With different settings such as Main and Baseline for the profile it still does the same thing.

If I use Adobe Encoder (using the H.264 codec) to make the mp4 file, it works correctly and will stream the video and start playing before it loads the entire video.

Right now I save out a high bitrate mp4 file out of Sony Vegas and then use Adobe Encoder to make my final video. This is an extra step and doubles my encoding time since I have to do it twice. It would be nice to produce the files directly from Vegas.

I have tried other Flash players besides JWPlayer and they do the same thing.

If anybody knows how to make mp4 files that will stream correctly, please let me know.

Thanks.

You will need to use a utility called http://www.datagoround.com/?referrer=MP4FastStartMP4 Fast Start[/link] to set streaming mode.

I just used it too and it did the job perfectly. It takes about one second to process the video and then they work perfectly. That was the only advantage to using Flash video on my site. Now .mp4's are the choice. Thanks for telling those of us who missed that.
