Can not drop some mp4 files to the V21/315 timeline.

ritsmer wrote on 5/26/2024, 7:33 AM

Have been away from video editing for half a year - so - for my next project I installed V21 and updated to B315.

Problem: I can not drop some mp4 files onto the V21 timeline any more. When I try, only a little "red-ring-prohibited" symbol is shown. The files can be dropped on a V20 timeline without problems. Here is an example of such a file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IYJqUna3gcz6T4mpOVYG-htz3aaV2cXU/view?usp=sharing

Here is the Mediainfo of the file:

Is this by design - or is it an error ?

@ritsmer Hi, I get the same black lined circle but if you turn on Legacy AVC it will load onto the timeline,

Something to do with the So4compoundplug vs the new mxcompoundplug I think, someone else will explain better

Welcome back.

Thank you for the download. In VP21b315, it imported without a problem:

BUT ... I do have 'Enable legacy AVC decoding' enabled in Options/Preferences/File I/O (tab). After disabling that setting, the video would not import (but no red ring).

Therefore, try enabling 'Enable legacy AVC decoding' in Options/Preferences/File I/O (tab) if its not already enabled.

Yes. Enabling the legacy AVC decoding makes it work perfectly. Thank you both.

But wont you then loose the benefits of the new encoder as you are using the old depreciated encoder.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

Probably yes - but to me with an i9 13900K + RTX 4090 it does not bother.

And - if the format in the old Muvizu problem-file is not too exotic - then Magic might add it to the new encoder in a future build.

Exactly, do whatever you need to do for now to get it to work and hopefully you can benefit from the new decoder and this media in a future version.
