can not play vegas video mpeg 1 video from website

Hello,

I am a user of Vegas Video and I have shot a very short video clip. I rendered as a MPEG-1 (Main Concept) file in Vegas and loaded to my website. However, it will not play....my question to you is why? When trying to play in Windows Media Player it default message is 'connecting to server' .......'requesting codec'...then there is nothing...it will not play.

When I render as an avi or wmv file it works......when I render as a mpeg1 file in other nles it works.....for some reason the Vegas Video (Main Concept) mpeg1 rendering tool does not seem to be working.

This is not a problem with my computer, isp or webhost.....have troubleshot all of that already.....does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Edmund

Rending to MPEG-1 for web use is a poor choice. Rendering as a WMV (Windows Media Video) file not only will result in a much smaller file, it will give you better quality too at lower bitrates.

Thank you BillyBoy. However I want to be able to load mpeg1's to the website....if my 100 dollar pinnacle program does this I am sure Vegas can.....right? Is there something about the MainConcept mpeg1 that is quirky?

Don't know, never rendered a MPEG-1 in Vegas.

It would be one thing to make them available on your website as file downloads, but if you're trying to stream them, you will have a problem. MPEG files are not designed to be streamed as progressive downloads.

What are the specs on your MPEG1? Resolution, Bitrate, etc. How did you have the Audio Encoded? How big is the MPEG file?

Does the file play on your computer okay locally? If that's so then there's nothgin wrong with your Rendering in Vegas. I woudl stick with the other here.. Mpeg is not a good choice of internet stream at all.

Thank you all for your help.....I should have clarified that I was not trying to stream....I just wanted people to be able to download mpegs from my website. I worked on this and I am not sure what I was doing wrong. I could view from my machine however they could not be viewed from other machines and downloaded from my website. I started saving the files differently and now it is working. In fact I have 5 test machines and none of them could download the mpeg. They all said the same error message. And again it is was not the isp, webhost, machine. What was it. I am not really sure.....I am 99 percent sure it was user error.

Nonetheless...EUREKA.....it is working now......

I think I am going to sign up for the 99 dollar a year customer service.

Speaking of streaming...if I do want to stream what is the best type of file to use? .wmv?

Thanks again for your help.
