Can Only Render in WMV

Hi All,

I'm a new user, using VMS Platinum 9.0.

I'm having a problem with rendering. I can only render my project (which consists of AVI clips and 2 JPEG images) to WMV format.

I've tried various configurations of the other formats, but all I get is a blank screen, or the JPEGs and the audio rendering but not the video.

Any idea what's wrong?

That's because you need to install codecs on your Windows machine to playback more formats, e.g. mpeg2, mpeg4. I suggest you install Apple's Quicktime in order to playback MP4 videos, and VLC to playback MPEG-II.

I thought about that, but I'm pretty sure I have all the relevant codecs installed because I've never had any problems viewing any type of media. Maybe I should try reinstalling the codecs.

Okay, I cleared out all my added codecs, cleaned the registry and reinstalled just the XVid codec. I still can only render in WMV, not AVI.

Any other thoughts?

If you downloaded the right XViD codec, then it should be available for encoding under the AVI filetype, press "custom", go to the "video" tab, and select "xvid" from the codec listing.

Thanks Eugenia, that's the info I needed. I've got other problems now, but at least both sound and video are rendering correctly. :-)
