Can "Play" and "Enter" do the same thing?

Is there any way that pressing "play" on the remote control can start the video of the highlighted thumbnail? The only way to start a video, that I can see, is to hit "enter" when the thumbnail is highlighted..

For example, I actually had someone tell me that the DVD "didn't work" when I gave it to them. What happened was they put the DVD in the player and saw the main menu with a highlighted thumbnail. They proceeded to hit "play". Nothing happened. Of course, if they would have hit "enter", the video would have played. Why can't "play" be programmed to do the same thing? If it can't, why is "play" even an option?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks....

i'm pretty sure that's DVD player specific. My player works on enter or play. I had one that only works on enter. I belive my parents works on play.

Thanks for your reply.

I am going to do some experimentation and if you are correct--and I am not saying that you are not correct--it makes no sense whatsoever that button functions would be different depending on the DVD player. Aren't people confused enough with DVDs?

You are correct. I burned a DVD from DVDA4 and was able to activate it by using the "play" buttons. My guess is that the people who previously tried my DVD had an older DVD player.

Interestingly, however, in the "preview" section of DVDA4, the "play" button does not activate the video. One must use the "enter" button. This fact added to my confusion on the issue.

Thanks again....
