Hello,
I make a montage with pics and text roll generator using pan/crop to create zoom movements. When i render the file (mpeg2 or avi) in the custom dialog box if i use 'preview' i have a better result than with 'good' ?
If i use 'good' render setting i have a trailing phenomen with stokes during letters movement.
Why this ? something wrong in my settings ?
Thanks a lot for any help.

How are you viewing the resulting file?

I think with the preview settings Vegas actually ditches every second field. That would avoid the problem I think you are seeing if you;re viewing the file back in Vegas however you've also lost half the vertical resolution.

Hello Bob and thank you,
When render is done i click open then i see the result with Windows media player, but during rendering i have the same trailing and lines in the Vegas preview window.
Lost half vertical resolution : i think you are right this corresponds to to what i see as if one line on two was missing. But how to prevent this when i select good or best quality that is the question.
Do you know the response ?
Thanks.

Preview settings don't affect the render quality. They only affect the quality of what you preview when playing back from the timeline.

When rendering, do NOT use the "default" template, but instead use one of the "DVD Architect" templates.

also, if you're rendering/previewing interlaced it will alaways look funky on your PC. Are you viewing it on a PC or on a preview monitor?

Hello,
I preview on a PC with windows media player clicking on open button on the dialog box at the end of the rendering.
Johnmeyer : i'm talking about the preview / good / best combo box wich is on the first panel of the 'render as' custom dialog box and it affects the render because with a same setting i have the trailing lines in GOOD mode and it's ok with PREVIEW mode. Will try an other setting like DVD Architect.
Thanks

If your final destination is a TV set, burn the project to a DVD RW and see what it looks like there. As has been mentioned here before, a computer monitor will not give you an accurate representation of what your project will look like.

Thanks, i begin to think it's time to me to buy a real Video monitor. Does someone know a good (not too expensive) video monitor to use with Vegas as external monitor. I suppose if i use a Windows secondary monitor i will have the same problem, so between
Blackmagic Design DeckLink and OHCI compliant IEEE 1394/DV as named in Vegas external monitor what must i choose.
Thanks to all.

For $500, the JVC TMH-150CGU is recommended by more than a few of us here, myself included. B&H is currently out of stock on it though.

First you need some form of D->A converter, just about anything will do, even your camera or VCR if you don't mind the inconvenience. Just connect it via a 1394 port, can be the same one as you capture with.
If your budget cannot stretch to a purpose built video monitor a cheap TV with A/V inputs is better than nothing, just get it calibrated right.

If you have a DVD player hooked up to your home TV that's a good final check. DVD+/-Rs are so cheap these days I don't bother with the RW stuff.
