Can someone please explain to me this puzzle?

I have a Sony camera that produces 1920x1080 clips. Why then when I export as MP2 and import into DVDA, do I get options to burn at 720x576 or 704x576 (PAL)? What happened to my lovely HD clips? Is there any point in importing HD into VP9, when all that DVDA can output is 720x576 or 704x576?

DVDA v5 can produce Blu-ray HD discs, but as far as standard DVDs playable on a standard DVD player, 720x576 or 704x576 are your only options. This is a limitation of the DVD specs, not a limitation of DVDA.

So John, what do I gain by importing 1920 x 1080 clips? I may as well lower the definition and have easier editing. Yes?

Just purchase Bluray discs, burner, video card, motherboard, sound card.

Well, you can future-proof your videos (if you ever want to produce HD, your videos will be up to the task). Also, shooting in HD and outputting SD gives you the additional flexibility of being able to pan and scan after the fact without losing quality. Other than that, yes, if your output media is DVD, then you may as well shoot in SD and save yourself a lot of grief in the editing suite.

Editing HDV and rendering to SD mpeg-2 gives you significantly better color resolution if you're working in NTSC.
