Can't burn a dvd-dl disc

2bulldog wrote on 11/6/2010, 8:40 AM
When I try to burn a dual layer dvd disc, I get a message telling me to insert layer brake in between some numbers. (01:00:42.806 & 01:30:14.576). I'm presuming this reads hh/mm/ss? I've jumped all over the timeline but has yet to find the right point. I'm using a ASUS dl-dvd burner. I'm working on a desktop PC.

Thanks in advance.

If you haven't already tried it, I'd suggest letting DVD-A automatically select the layer break point.

Get as close to the point it requests and insert a chapter point, your DL disc will then burn as it should...Even if you check the create break point automatically it will sometimes give you the messege you are getting, Inserting a chapter point will solve this issue....

Both those answers are correct, however, I'll burn in Imgburn instead. Saves a lot of hassles.

In any case, don't expect a burned DL to play in all players. It's a crapshoot. If you will be distributing these, I strongly suggest a 2-disc set instead.

Thanks. I appreciate the response. I decided to reduce the bitrate a tad. from 5767 to 4540. Looks good. It was the first time that I'd tried to burn to dual layer. The file was so large I figured I'd give it a try.

Thanks again,

Milton

Thanks for your reply. I decided to reduce the file size. Heck, I had worked on that layer brake issue for over a day. It looks good with the reduced file size. I will keep your information handy, though. Lately my files have increased so I thought I'd go with dual layer. I hear it may not be the best of choices.

Again, Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. However, I decided to reduce the file size and I'm happy with the results. I tried dual layer for the first time because of the large file size. However, from this forum I've learned quite a bit of information regarding reducing file size or (bitrate) size and that deal layer may not always be the best choice. Again thanks for your response.

I use DL discs a lot. Always use Verbatim +DL now, and never had one of those returned. If you put a chapter on a fade to black, you don't even see the layer change - unlike most commercial discs!

Your chosen bitrate of 4540 is quite reasonable and will give you about 2 hrs on a disc.

If doing a VBR render in Vegas, set your minimum bitrate to at least 1,500,000 to minimize blocking in fades and transitions. The default minimum of 192,000 is woefully inadequate.

Thanks...Fade to black. I'm currently working on a new assignment. I'll try that on this current project. Some say that dvd-dl's can be difficult wo deal with from this sight. It seems as though you haven't had any problems. On the project I just finished, I reduced the file size to 4.5 gb to get it to burn. I hated to but I really had to get it out.

I really appreciate the information and can't wait to try this process
