Can't Burn DVD_Audio Problem?

pgd wrote on 5/21/2008, 6:33 PM
Since posting this question yesterday I've checked the temp files the DVD Architect made and discovered that, while the VIDEO_TS folder looks fine, the AUDIO_TS folder is empty! So apparently during the burn process the audio wasn't processed at all.
Prior to burning the Optimization process said "The audio on track 1 will be compressed." I'm not sure if that was the problem.
The program was set to use AC-3 Stereo.

I then copied these temp files to another folder and tried burning another DVD of a different video that I captured with Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition and the same thing happened. It also said "The audio on track 1 will be compressed." I changed the audio setting to PCM Stereo because this is what Pinnacle Studio 9 had used successfully to burn dvds on this computer. I got the same error message as below and the AUDIO_TS folder in the temp folder is again empty.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks for any help.

My original post is below.

Hi,
I’m using DVD Architect v4.5.
I tried burning my first dvd last night and got the following error message (and a blank disc);

“SFMMCX”-(17)
“-(4)
-‘TSST corp CDDVDW SH-203N SB01’-(0)
Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 1974
A hardware error occurred.
Unknown Additional Sense 08 03

Info: 00 00 00 00
Specific: 00 00 00
Extra: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

I have successfully burned dvds on this machine using Pinnacle Studio 9 and Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 so I know the dvd burner works.

I did a Google search of “DVD Architect burn problem” and came up with several nearly identical problems dating from 2003 on and using DVD Architect V2 on up.
If anyone would like me to print them I can.
As I said, they’re nearly identical except the second and third lines. Instead of “-(4)”, two of them list 'atapi'-(1), then the third line lists different DVD burners.

It seems like this is a known problem and hopefully there’s a fix to it.

Thanks for any help,

pg

"AUDIO_TS folder is empty"

That's normal - it's only used if you're making an explicit DVD-Audio disc, otherwise it's redundant.

All audio is encoded into the video files (in video_ts). So you really do not need to worry about audio_ts being empty. Leave the directory there for compatibility with players - but let it stay empty :)

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Do you have any ideas why the dvd isn't rendering or what the error message means?

I usually tell folks to Google including in the DVDA forum but you've already done that; I normally hope that following the suggestions in those Google hits will lead to a cure.

Otherwise several folks here in this forum - myself included - recommend doing your burning outside of your authoring app, be it DVDA or whatever. The way I see it, I've got Nero & Roxio for burning, which is what they specialize in. Either will let me create a DVD, but I prefer DVDA - that's what it's designed for. While DVDA will also let me burn a disc, I prefer software that's explicitly design for burning. Or use the free ImgBurn which will out-perform anything else anyway.

Other advantages include being able to test &/or modify your DVDA DVD, easier duplication &/or multiple copies, and a sort of fail safe if I get too cheap, buy off brand discs, and create a coaster or three.

Hi,
Thanks again for the reply. So if I lay out the dvd menus in DVDA then burn it to the hard drive, I can then take these files (VIDEO_TS) and use Roxio or Nero to burn the dvd?

yes

After testing (& optionally editing) you can burn the DVD using Roxio's Copy applet, or, in Nero you just add the VIDEO_TS folder after starting a new Video DVD project. ImgBurn works on disc images as the name implies - you can either create the image and burn in the program, or create the image in DVDA, test if you want (assuming you have software to mount the image), & then burn.

Roxio's Copy will use the folder name for the disc - [MyFolderName]\VIDEO_TS will cause Roxio to name the DVD "MyFolderName". ImgBurn is especially good at burning dual layer blanks.
