Can't capture HDV where is "AVC subunit"?

Ok, let me get this straight. I’ve been sitting in front of my computer forever trying to capture HDV from my FX1 to Vegas 6.b - and I’m missing something major. FIRST I go to control panel, click “System” SECOND select the “Hardware” tab THIRD click the “Device Manager” button. FOURTH scroll down to the “Sound, video and game controllers” FIFTH select “Video Codecs” there is no “AVC Subunit” mentioned, as on other forums. What gives?

Gee, I don't have an "AVC Subunit" either. But I've been capturing from my FX1 for over 18 months.

Firewire cable connected to camera and PC. Power on Camera. In Vegas, select Capture. When the message box asks External (DV) or Internal (HDV) select HDV. Set the capture folder, then select Record.

What other problems are you having?

Edited:
Thanks, teaktart. Forgot the "Power on Camera." part!

I had similar problems when first trying to capture with my A1...
Do as suggested above by "fldave" and you may need to re-boot (turn off and on) your camera several times while its in PLAY/EDIT mode. Eventually, my camera got recognized and I was on my way...

Good Luck,

For detailed info go here: XP and DVHS.

The same set up is used for HDV cameras, matter of fact I have seen this exact thing in "manuals" now for setting up HDV cameras.

EDIT - Another variation of the above: Just how do I capture HDV content to a PC?

Sometimes Vegas doesn't recognize my A1's... I started using HDV Split and no more problems as I allow it to do my capturing. Give it a try- it is free.
