Can't Capture To Canon Elura 85

Hello,

I have a Canon Elura 85 and have it connected to my computer via the IEEE 1394 port. When I select Capture Video from the file menu, the Capture window shows "Device Not Available". The devices I have to choose from are "None" and IEEE 1394 MPEG2/TS Device. I am choosing the second one. All of the transport buttons are greyed out.

I should also note that my InterVideo WinDVD Creator works flawlessly. I have the Canon in Play or VCR mode when trying to capture. I could just use the WinDVD software, but I paid for Vegas Movie Studio and expect it to work. Sony's web site claims that their software works with the Canon Elura range of cameras.

Thanks,
Brian

When you click on capture you need to use the external device setting the internal is for high def video and dvd cameras only.
It should launch sony video capture.
Hope this helps

You may have a software conflict. I believe Sony mentions in the installation manual there may be potential conflicts with other video editing software. I also know with my computer and Vegas Studio Platinum Version 6 when I go through the process of capture it seems to capture better when I have the tape playing on my Sony HC21 camera before I select capture. Once it "sees" the camera I can control it from the computer and rewind it to the beginning if I want. Hope that helps.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I have Movie Studio DVD+ Platinum. But when I try to launch the Sony Video Capture app, it asks for a serial number. I was never given a S/N for that app. Is it not included with the program I purchased?

I had serial number issues with a downloaded version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio and DVD Platinum. These are two seperate applications and have to be activated seperately. I fixed it with a call to customer service who quickly resolved the problem by sending me the codes to activate. If you got the retail copy (in the box) the codes to activate are on the very first page of the manual near the top

That being said I am assuming you are attempting to capture from your camera while "outside" the program and using the selections offered upon detection to tell it to use Sony. I would say see above.

ammend the number of applications to include sound forge, acid mix and special effects - all which need activation

and also look at post : Video capture serial number?

- you may have incomplete install

Thanks for your posts. As it turned out, uninstalling VMS then reinstalling fixed the issue with the capture. But now I have a new problem. After several minutes of capturing (it varies), my computer locks up "hard". Have to do a hard shutdown. It gets frustrating getting 15 minutes into a capture only to have the thing lock up and lose it all and have to start over.

I have plenty of HD space and keep it defragged with Diskeeper. Anybody else have issues with the Sony capture freezing up?
