Can't capture to VHS tape

I have rendered my movie and am trying to capture. I have my firewire cable connected to my DV camcorder and the Monster cable connected from my camcorder to my VCR. I click on the camcorder icon and then click on Capture Tab. The preview box says Please connect a Device. It then says the Preview is turned off. I clicked on the Print to Tape tab and since I will be outputting to the VCR and usingthe camcorder as a converter, I went to Options/Preferences, and removed the checkmark next to Enable DV Device Control. I opened the .AVI file I created, started the VCR record button, but I couldn't click on Preview on Device or Record to Device. They were ghosted out. I don't know where to go from here. Also, when using the camcorder as a converter, I have to place the camcorder in playback mode, correct???DTV right???

Thanks

It is possible your camera won't do a "loop-thru" analog>DV conversion. You could try recording the VHS output to DV tape, and then capture that tape (two operations). That'll definietly work.

What camcorder would you suggest that does have the loop thru analog-DV conversion??? I have just purchased a Sony TRV17 and it is in the mail. In the meantime, I borrowed a friends camcorder to try to output on and that camera is that model??? Any ideas please let me know because I am anxious to transfer my movie.

Thanks

I spoke with Sony and they said the model of Camcorder I tried to use will loop thru. If someone could share with me the complete setup and also what options to choose to tape to a VHS tape using the camcorder as a convertor please.

Did you render the file using the NTSC DV or PAL DV templates without
changing any settings at all? If you render to any other template, or
make any changes to the DV template, then your .AVI file is no longer a
true DV file and VidCap will refuse to print it.

You may have to re-render your project to the default DV template. You
can test if this is the problem by selecting a very short portion of your
project (even a few seconds is sufficient) and rendering "loop region only"
to quickly create a very tiny .AVI file. If you can print this, then you need
to re-render your entire project.

Why is it that the Render Loop region is ghosted out so I can't check if even if I wanted to??? I have chose NTSC DV and made no other changes.
