HELLO EVERYBODY;

HOPE YOU CAN HELP, WHEN TRYING TO CAPTURE I GET A MESSAGE "THE DEVICE MICROSOFT DVCAM AND VCR COULD NOT BE OPENED" PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED ON AND NOT BEING USED BY ANOTHER APPLICATION OR USER."

IT HAS ALWAYS WORKED IN THE PAST WITHOUT A HITCH. SO FAR I'VE UNINSTALLED AND REINSTALLED THE PROGRAM. TURNED THE CAMERA TO VCR ON AND OFF BEFORE THE COMPUTER IS TURNED ON AND AFTER, CHECKED THE PREFERENCES SET TO ENABLE DV.

I'M ABLE TO CAPTURE IN ULEAD MOVIE FACTORY, ARCSOFT SHOWBIZ AND MICROSOFT VIDEO MAKER BUT NOT IN MOVIE STUDIO 3 ( I ALSO HAVE THE 3.0B UPDATE)

ANY SUGESTIONS??? HELP?

THANK YOU
RALPH

Is the camera set to DV out?
On a similar subject, if an analog camera is passing thru a digital camera the capture options will need to have "DV Device Control" unchecked.

Another thing to try. Jack had this same problem (The device "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user.) He fixed it and said,

"If a non-existent drive or directory is specified as the capture location, this error will occur. The setting is under Disk Management in the Options>Preferences window of the Video Capture application. "

Does this help?

Holy you know what! Thank You so much susan at Sony. I spent about 3 hours trying to fix the problem and it was soooooo simple. I had my setting going to an old project in my F: drive that I finished and moved to my c: drive. so the computer wasn't see a good destination to capture and send the file to. This forum is the greatest.

Everybody out there is great and very helpful.

Thank You Again

Susan:

I have this same problem but once the video capture program starts and the error message dialogue box pops up (stating that the video capture device could not be opened and to make sure it is turned on) I am unable to access the options menu (which is greyed out). Once I close the message box the Video Capture program automatically closes. Therefore I am unable to change the invalid flie location. I have tried reinstalling Movie Studio but this does not correct the problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Peter

Try holding down the Shift and Ctrl keys when you start VidCap from Movie Studio. This resets the prefs, which should include resetting the capture directory.
