Can't copy 'generated media'

I have a project consisting of five distinct sections. Sometimes the client wants the project complete, at other times, only sections one and five are required.

I'd like to be able to copy the desired sections to new veg files and print from the timeline. However, non-rendered 'generated text' media preceding section one is giving me a problem when I try to copy it to the second instance of VV30. I am presented with a box asking me if I want a new copy of the generated media or a reference to the original. It seems that, no matter which choice I select, my result is the same when I paste to the second instance of VV30. I get a text event on the timeline that reads "SAMPLE TEXT" no matter if copy or reference was selected.

How can I copy text events from one VV30 timeline to another without losing the text?

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestion, and, of course, it works . . . well, it sort of allows me to do what I want, but, not really, unless I'm doing something wrong . . .

I opened two instances of VV30, one containes my source project, the other is blank. I right-clicked on the 'generated text' event on my project timeline, went into edit media, named the event as a preset as you suggested.

Then, I copied/pasted a region including that event into the blank project timeline. I still get the words "SAMPLE TEXT" in that event. Of course, now I can go in and edit that event, selecting my saved preset to get an exact replica of the event from the source project . . . but, this was only a short test.

On a large project over a larger region with many of these 'generated media', saving and keeping track of all these presets could become a chore in and of itself.

I worked around the problem by re-saving the entire project using 'SAVE AS' to create a second copy of my project file, then, deleted sections I wanted to omit, but this is more complicated than simply selecting the desired regions, then, copying and pasting to a blank timeline.

I'm having a hard time accepting the assumption that there no way to simply copy and paste 'generated media' from one project to another without having to save/recall a preset.

Someone tell me it ain't so!

Thanks for the reply, GG.
