can't find it in the instructions?

Howdy:
Guess I need Sony Vegas 5 for dummies? I search the instruction manual and for the life of me, I can't find anything that tells me what " build dynamic RAM preview" means. If find the manual falls just short of being clear at times, or this just surpasses my 4 grade education.

Also, is there a way for me to burn to dvd +R, so I can watch it on a big screen without it fully rendering the project so that I can come back and make adjustments to my project once I see it under normal viewing conditions? Seems when render everything is locked into place as if it's the final cut.

Do a search here on "dynamic RAM preview" and you'll find plenty of stuff to read.

Regarding the DVD... nope, you gotta render. And yes, everything is locked into the "rendered" version. But you can always go back into the veg file and make adjustments as necessary and rerender.

To build a Dynamic RAM preview, highlight an area where frames are faltering, and press Shift +B. This will build a preview.
Set the amount of RAM to be used for previews in Options>Prefs>Video.

This is one of my favorite/most used functions.

Wow ... I didn't expect such a fast response! Thanks gentlemen :)

"highlight an area where frames are faltering" could you give me an example to help me understand what you mean?

"Set the amount of RAM"

Remember I used the words "sony vegas for dummies LOL" ... what's RAM?

I'd be even more lost without you guys.

RAM is Random Access Memory, and you have at least 256 meg of it in your computer. If you go to the preferences location I specified, you'll get a report of how much RAM you have. All computers have RAM.

To highlight an area, Click+Drag over an area that isn't playing back full framerate. This will create a grey line. You can also double click an event or transition to create a selection. Then press SHIFT+B and you'll have to wait a moment or two as the computer temporarily renders that small section to RAM.
You might want to check out the "
" book, which is *like* a Vegas for dummies, or the
or the
book from Thompson.
Training DVDs from VASST and Gary Kleiner are available, and there are lots of training locations on the web. In particular, you might find the VASST quite useful with over 1000 Vegas related resources, or JetDV's site, which has a newsletter and Beginner's Corner for you to learn from.
Lots of Vegas resources out there, most of them very good.

Did you try searching for "dynamic ram preview" in the help file?

I don't have V5, but I pulled out my V4 manual & found it in a few seconds. It's on page 224 under the heading "Building dynamic RAM previews."

I found it in the Index under "Dynamic RAM video previews."

I'd assume it's under a simular name in the index in the V5 manual.

You WERE kiding about that 4th grade education, right? :) Or else you're a New York State HS graduate (hey, 97% of you can at least get a 55 in 6 finals!)

Of course I was kidding about the education.

I also have vegas 4 and will look for the manual. I looked several times in 5.0 and couldn't find it.

If I had the V5 PDF, I would of looked.

It would be strange if it wasn't in there (or not in the index).
