Can't get past .net framework during install

I am trying to install Sony Movie Studio Plat and cannot get past the step of installing MS .Net Framework v 1.1. The installation process asks if I want to install Framework and I do that. The installation process comes right back again and asks the same question as if Framework were not installed. I am in an infinite loop.

What gives?!!

You could try just downloading the NET 1.1 framework install from microsoft and installing it standalone.

Yeah, I had that one as well. It kept prompting me to re-install the update even though it had already been installed. After about 8 attempts I went to the Windows Update page and unchecked the offending update so it wouldn't prompt me again.
FYI: Installing v2.0 on its own wouldn't allow me to install VMS 6. For some reason it had to be v1.1.

I tried that and Vegas Movie Studio still would not install. It seems that until .net framework is installed to Vegas Movie Studio's satisfaction (what ever that is) you can't proceed with the installation.

Andy C,

I am running Windows 2000, Service Pack 4. What is the Windows Update page?

I have currently installed v2.0 of Framework. Sounds like I need to uninstall that and install just v1.1.

Thanks for the reply

Jeff,

The Windows Update page is reachable directly through Internet Explorer. Go to Tools, Windows Update in IE5 or 6. IE7 is slightly different but I suspect you can't install IE7 on Windows 2000. I may be wrong. You certainly don't need IE7 to install what you need in your present case.

I've got Framework 1.1 and 2 installed but I distinctly remember just installing v2 first but Vegas would still insist on v1.1.
After I sorted out the repeat requests and installed v1.1 it all worked beautifully.

Hope that helps.
A.

There are several inputs on the Net showing that many programs, that before worked perfectly, suddenly seem to misbehave - when you install IE 7.
Myself I have kept IE 6 like I also keep "The old" Windows mediaplayer because with the new one I can not rip some CD's with the tracks in the right sequence...
