Can't hear audio w/48k audio setting

Why is it when I encode an mpeg-2 DVD file (which defaults to 48k audio instead of 44.1), I cannot hear the audio when I play the file back (either in Windows Media Player or if I open it with Video Factory)?

If I leave all settings the same, except bring the audio down to 44.1k, everything works OK.

No takers on this one? Am I missing something obvious?

Hmmm - this is a mystery. Even if your soundcard doesn't support 48kHz audio, Windows Media Player usually converts the audio to a sampling rate your soundcard can use (i.e., 44.1 kHz).

See Control Panel - Multimedia - Audio. There are several adjustments you can make if you hit the advanced properties button. Fiddling with the hardware acceleration and sampling rate conversion quality might help but I doubt it.

Instead, I suspect a problem with your soundcard drivers.

What are your hardware and software specs? Pay special attention to the sound card model and drivers. Plus, included the version of Windows and DirectX you use (should be 8.0 w/ Digital Video update in order to run VF 2.0)

Windows 2000 SP2
DirectX 8 w/ DV update
SB Live w/2000 drivers (current as of about 4 months ago)

I cannot hear the audio of a 48k movie either in Video Factory or Windows Media Player. It is a mystery. I will look at the settings of the SB Live and post any new findings.
