Can't import .avi files into Ver. 12.0 build 576

Hi,

I need some help. I downloaded the trial version (12.0, build 576, 64-bit) and for some reason, it's not allowing me to import .avi files into the project media folder. There's a message that says, "An error occurred while opening a codec." I've download a codec pack or two to no avail.

Seems odd to me. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jon

There are as many kinds of AVI files as there are jelly beans in a five gallon jar.
Download MediaInfo from Sourceforge and tell us what's inside those files. Then we'll help you find the right codec.

But start with a clean OS and Vegas install. "A codec pack or two" is the worst possible thing you could do to an editing system.

OK. Thanks.

Here's the media info 'info':

AVI: 22.7 MiB, 40s 768ms
1 video stream: MPEG-4 Visual (XviD)
1 audio stream: ADPCM

Then there's more info on 'first video stream' and 'first audio stream'. Do I need to put that info on the forum?

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack was what I downloaded and then just removed it from the computer seeing the above reply and due to the fact that it didn't help.

Running Windows 8, btw. Any other computer info that would be helpful?

Thanks.
