I recorded an hour long video with my ipod touch that's 5GB, i tried importing it into sonyvegas but i couldn't do it.
does anyone know how i can? is there a way to?
You're not alone. Here's something I posted just yesterday on CC for someone with similar problems with cell phone video.
The problem is that Vegas Pro and other high end editors expect constant frame rates for your video. Unfortunately, most cell phone video uses variable frame rate recording. A lot of game recording software does the same, resulting in similar problems within Vegas. The solution for video you've already recorded, is that you will have to re-render to a constant frame rate. You can use Handbrake (freeware), making sure that you select constant frame rate for your re-render. You'll lose some quality, but it probably won't be too noticeable.
Long term, you need to make sure that your cell phone is recording at a constant frame rate. There is an app for both iPhone and android devices which will enable you to do just this. The name is FiLMiC Pro--it's only about $10 but well worth it to avoid this problem. Personally, I've never used it (I don't record cell phone video.), but it comes highly recommended by one of the COW leaders (jr) on the Sony Vegas Forum. Good luck.
Thanks a lot wwaag, for posting the name of that app. Variable frame rate can indeed choke Vegas, as can certain "Apple-ized" Hi or Hi10 parameters. I don't know if his 5GB file size poses a problem for Vegas or not.
If there won't be a lot of editing involved, feeding the iPod file directly to Handbrake will look terrific without taking too much time.
