Can't import media from other Vegas Projects

I'm working thru "Vegas 4 Editing Workshop" and I've come to something I can't duplicate. I'm trying to do the "Import Media from other projects" example as shown in figure 5.5. The text describes using File/Open to open another .veg project; I tried that, and I tried the Import button in the Media Pool. But I never see a checkbox labeled "Merge media from Vegas Project files into current project" (even if I resize the dialog), and, if I try to open a .veg file, it completely replaces the current project.

I'm on Vegas 4.0d. Do others have this option? Is there a preference that must be turned on somewhere?

Ouch, you caught me out. That is one of two images in the book from a beta version of V4. Remember, I wrote the book while V4 was still in Beta, and that disappeared from 4.0a because it proved problematic on some systems. I guess it was never resolved. I didn't realize we hadn't caught that one til after it had gone to press.

You can open a second instance of Vegas, open the VEG file in that instance, and then copy the media assets from the tracks in that instance into the first instance of Vegas. Not perfect, and you can't copy track properties, but the event information does copy. Gets you part way there.

You can drag media bins from one open instance of Vegas to another.
