What's your quicktime version?

I had this problem too. Reload quicktime on your computer and select "recommended" when asked. Aparently, this installs tools needed to communicate with Vegas 4.0.

Thanks Jetdv and bf...

I tried checking the version but couldn't find the ref...anyway, downloaded quicktime 6 (latest) as prompted by Vegas 4 and now the files not only don't load, they actually cause Vegas 4 to hang up altogether forcing me to forcibly end the app...the only files I'm trying to load are the stock vid footage which came with the Sonicfoundry CD FWIW...

BTW, Quicktime did ask me to register and load a serial number after download, which I didn't obviously, hoping that loading the codec on download would suffice to get the files working in Vegas...Could that be the prob? I hate to think I'm actually going to have to pay for quicktime jsut to get some files working in Vegas...

Maybe I'll just have to use Vegas Video 3 for this particular project...

Thanks again for your help!

Paul.

This should work for you with QuickTime 6; you should not need the Pro version.

1. When you installed QuickTime, did you perform a custom installation? You'll need to install everything, including the authoring components.

2. Can you play the files in the QuickTime player?

Thanks SonicTSW and bf.

After quicktime 6 download, I chose the recommended install. Should I re-install and select another option- I take it the next option would be the custom option you mention SonicTSW. If so, anything special I should be aware of when doing so?

Many thanks again,

Paul.

I'm not sure which components the recommended install includes for QuickTime 6. You do need the authoring components and these are not installed by default. Just select everything in the custom install dialog. I have never run into any problems with this.
