Hi fuzzy,

What does Vegas indicate when you right click on the file in Vegas explorer, and select properties?

Wondering, MPH

download and install the Morgan MJPEG codec and you should be set.

Hi,
Thanks.

I've been to the Morgan MJPEG web site.

Do I really have to buy this codec ? or is there a freeware version, and how come it plays in windows media and not VV ?

just says ****.avi

and in summary it says 320 x 240 pixels 15 frames /sec, data rate 122kps

I believe you need an MJPEG codec to read these files, so you'll need to surf around to find something free.

Maybe this one: http://www.leadtools.com/survey/codecsurvey.asp

(I have not tried it)

I've found that VirtualDub will open some files Vegas Video can't. Just resave at the default AVI setting in VD. Everyone I've tried then opens fine in VV. Your mileage may vary.

Yes it works if I install the MJPEG CODEC

BUt all these files are only free for 30 days!

Why is it not posssible to have this included in VV?

Now I need to fork out additional cash to see *.avi files that win mediaplayer can play but in VV can't ?

I wouldn't buy that Morgan codec if I were you.
Use VDub. It's free, it can capture, convert, etc.......

Sometimes the software that comes with the camera installs the appropriate codec. I am wondering why Windows Media Player can play it but Vegas can't. What codec does WMP say it's using?

Yes. Vdub has MJPEG and also huffyuv. I have a full version but don't use it. I'm new to this vv3 too. I cap video in vdub using huffyuv but it won't work in vv. So I cap uncompressed and it works. Just wondering if it's possible to include it in vv and how. This codec is already installed in my system but doesn't show in vv as one of the choices.

says avi 340x240 15 fps/122kps
Strangely VV only loads the audio ?

fuzzzy,

I had same problem too. VV3 does not have MJPEG codec. Use this mainconcept mjpeg. I think it's free.

Download mcjpeg30.zip and follow instruction in text file to install.

Thanks ....tried it and it works ok...also not free though i.e.

The decoder contained in the archive is free for non-commercial use,
the encoder is provided for evaluation. The encoder works without
restrictions for the first 45 minutes after starting your computer, after
that it adds a MainConcept logo to the captured video (which results
in 2-3% fps loss). You can register the encoder for $25 (40 DM) at our
WebSite at http://www.mainconcept.com.
