Can't open project

tylerdan wrote on 4/19/2004, 12:13 PM
I have a video project that I have worked on for several months and I went back into it to do some small adjustments but I keep getting "An Exception has Occurred". This happens on this and a older version of the project, Also I have already rendered out the project several times. I just can open it now and I don't understand why.

Details of the error

read other threads. Many of us are having problems with BMP images, some people with PNG. You can add to project and do everything except reopen the project. Perhaps you added a BMP (maybe a PNG) image the last time you had it opened. Check the other threads about this problem for more information. This seems to be becoming a very common problem with vv5. Hasn't been reported before for vv4.

tylerdan, have you made any changes to how QuickTime is installed on your system? From the crash dump, looks like it is deep in calls to QuickTime. If you did change your QuickTime installation, such as install a new version, did you install everything? You'll need to do a custom install to install all of the components.

valdi, it looks like there may be a transition or FX causing your trouble. Are you opening a Vegas 5.0 project, or is it an older Vegas 4.0 project?

Try removing Photoshop 7. Worked for me.

Are you using Chroma Key at all? I'm getting an exception any time I use it. I can work on the project, or render it, or anything, but if I close it I can't reopen the project without getting an exception kind of like what you're describing.
I had added a BMP file to the project, then used Chroma to make it partially transparent.
I fixed the issue by renaming the file that the Chroma effect had been applied to. When I opened Vegas, instead of a fatal exception, I got a missing file message, selected "ignore", and was able to get into the project to fix the problem. (I replaced the Chroma Keyed sequence with a pre-rendered equivalent.)
-------------------------------------------------------
Update: It wasn't the Chroma Key; it was the BMP itself. A different project did the same thing with just an unmodified BMP in it.

Remove Photoshop, which is more expensive than Vegas? Not going to happen.

Try using PNG format instead of BMP or JPEG.
