Can't Open Vegas Movie Studio - help!

I just got the program and it installed fine. BUT whenever I try and open the program I get this error message:

"16 bit windows subsystem
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMIN\LOCALS~1\Temp A temporary file needed for initialization could not be created or could not be written to. Make sure that the directory path exists, and disk space is available. Choose "Close" to terminate the application."

I've tried uninstalling the program, defragging my hard drive, ran chkdsk, deleted temp files, all to no avail. I have 16Gigs of free hard space too. The DVD Architect program opens fine. But this doesn't go anywhere.

Any ideas? I have NO idea what to do and my email to Sony has not been answered. I'm getting very frustrated!! Any help would be mucho appreciated!!

Thanks!!!

Kind of Windows problem - please try this:

1) Go to Start-->Run and type REGEDIT, click OK
2) Browse to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

3) Change the value of: NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation to 0

Maybe it is solved now - or else:

4) The problem will be corrected the next time you reinstall the program

Thanks for that suggestion, but when I went to it the value was already set to 0.

I've tried uninstalling it several times and the same error pops up.

Sigh. Sony still has not replied to my email either.

The error message "16 bit windows subsystem" indicates something about running in the old 16 bit mode...

What Windows have you got? XP? SP2??
What version of Vegas MS are you trying to install??

I have Windows XP and I'm trying to run Vegas 6.0.

Many others and I have been installing all versions of VMS/VF since last century :-) on XP and I have never heard about this error.

I have been searching Google etc. for "16 bit windows subsystem" etc. but the many topics found did not give me any ideas to what might help in your case.

Even if it is a Windows issue I hope, that the Sony Support can tell you what to do - and when you get the answer please post the soloution here in this forum.

Hope You will very soon be able to enjoy VMS
