Can't preview HD on external monitor

I had been trying to send the Vegas timeline output via IEEE through a Z1 out to a TV monitor. The image gets there, but it appears squeezed, regardless of how I adjust the camera's output settings.

I made my first call to SONY telephone support who quickly, efficiently and politely advised that I can't preview my HD footage (CF Intermediate) on my 4:3 monitor in widescreen/letterboxed format. To get an unsqueezed, letterbox format, I'd need a DeckLink card. Can anyone verify this from personal experience? Anyone know if a DeckLink card is compatible with NewTek's VT card?

Would another solution be to replace my 4:3 TV monitor with a 16:9 HD TV?

Thanks

I fixed the problem by changing Options/Preferences/Preview Device/If project format is invalid, conform to the following/NTSC DV.

I had set it previously to "NTSC DV Widescreen". Seems counterintuitive to me that it must be "NTSC DV" to show the whole widescreen image.

SONY support (Kimberly was who talked to me today) should update the internal knowledge base accordingly.

Good to know I don't have to run out and buy a DeckLink or possibly an HD TV to preview the Vegas timeline.
