Please confirm that you have the Quicktime authoring components installed. You can get these with the free version of Quicktime from www.apple.com. If you still get a render error after insatalling the QT authoring components, please post your render settings here and we'll try to track this down further.

Replying to SonicEPM:

I downloaded the QT6 package, it listed three options: a minimal install for playback only, a recommeded install for QT Pro users and media creators and a custom install. I chose the recommended install for QT Pro users and media creators. However I do not have a QT Pro license.

From Vegas 4.0 I'm selecting the QT 5 render option with the 3Mbps template, no changes.

Thanks for the help!

I can render to that template- file works fine in Vegas and QT player.

Please post your system specs, project settings, the length of your render loop and anything else that might help us track this down.

IBM ZPro Tower, Single 933MHz PIII processor, 256MB RAM, 18GB SCSI boot drive, 120GB FireWire 7200RPM AV drive, Matrox 450 video card. I've been rendering MPG, AVI and AC3 like a champ, no problems at all.

Project settings are the default NTSC DV.

I don't have a loop region specified, project length is 05:06.04. Even when I specify a loop it doesn't render.

I'm running Version 4.01a build 119

I purchased QT6 Pro just so I could convert the V4 MPG2 to MOV, cause I need to get this project out the door. In the meantime though, it would be nice to be able to render directly from V4 to QT6. Thanks!

Ugggggh! QT6 doesn't transcode the audio from an MPG file and the video is absolutely hideous! Not sure if the output from V4 would be better but I sure could use some guidance here since SoFo says they get good QT output from Vegas. Thanks!

Looks like I may have solved the problem, or at least part of it. Here's what I did:

1. Uninstall Vegas 4.0, DVD Architect 1.0, QuickTime 6.0 Pro, rebooted.
2. Installed V4, rebooted, started & registered.
3. Installed DVDA, rebooted, started & registered.
4. Updated DVDA, rebooted.
5. Installed QT6, rebooted.

Then I tried rendering a 5 min V4 project using the default QT5 template, but somewhere along the line it failed, giving no reason. So I rendered a 30-sec clip and found that it was 1.2GB in size! The 5-min render probably ran out of disk space.

Quality of the QT image was good but the motion was jerky and it skips in the very beginning of the clip. I'm going to try different render settings to see if I can improve performance and get the size down, but at least V4 is rendering QT files.

My guess is that I didn't have the QT5 authoring tools installed when V4 was installed the first time. I probably had the minimum install which does not include authoring tools. After deleting and re-installing everything it found what it needed and now appears to work.

My last post on this thread: the solution outlined earlier seems to have worked, and I've found the right combination of options to get a pretty good QT file. To recap, uninstall Vegas and QuickTime, re-install QT with the authoring option (the Recommended option) and then re-install Vegas. Worked like a champ for me!
