can't render to DV tape

After rendering my project as an .avi file to my hard drive, I tried to send it to DV tape from the capture dialog in VF. I cannot get a good print to the tape, there are skips and dropouts, or else the audio is completely gone. Also, when I try to play the file with Windows Media Player, the video and audio skip constantly. If I import the clip into VF and put it on the timeline, it's fine. Anyone know what my problem is?

Have a really good look at the frames and their running. I've had problems with some of my "footage" not being as "clean" as I thought. Yes, gaps between bits of clips when rendered should be seen as tiny black flashes.

The next thing you could try is to ensure all your DirectX 8.1 is up to date. What version & build of VF are you using?

Try a piece of "clean" un-edited clipage. Try rendering that to tape. Sometimes even captured clips can hide bumps and burps. Yes I know this should be flattened when rendered. What sort of resource space is your VF allowed to work in? I try and strip this down to 99%. Are you working from HD? I work with my C: drive and two separate extenal maxtor firewire drives [60 and 80 gb]. Printing to Tape [PTT] I have found to be a head banging experience. I'm sure there will be others who have far greater expereince than me and would share their wisdom.

But do try a freshly captured and un-edited clip for PTTing. Can't do any harm! Might give you some further clues.

Include some of your hardware/software profiles in your next popst - for the other VFers to consider. Oh yeah - if you look at the Pinnacle Studio7 Users Forum, the same symptoms apply/occur.

You'll get there I'm sure.

To follow on from Grazie, also I take it you're PTT without any progs running except syst tray and explorer, your system is defragged. As well, and i know this may sound silly but it happens, make sure all three formats tally when PTT, ie; when 'making movie' the format there is the same as under 'advanced' render, which also is the same under 'preferences'. Another point - DMA should also be enabled.

Yesssss... Laz forgot them. You're right. I have had better response from capturing at full size and PTTing at the full size. Yeh bigger file sizes, but it is one less "variable" knocked out of the way.
