My Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 doesn't give me the option on the 'Render As' screen for the MainConcept mp4 or Sony AVC formats.
I only can render as
MPEG-1
MPEG-2
ogg
mov
rm
avi
wmv
(and all the audio formats).
And when I select WMV and click the Custom button, under video it even lets me select "High Definition - 1280 x 720", but when I click OK I get the message
"Vegas Movie Studio does not support output of frame sizes greater than 1440 (width) by 1080 (height). The template you selected has been removed from the template list."
Well, that's your fault. You bought the wrong product. Movie Studio doesn't support HD. You need the Platinum Edition for HD support. So you must upgrade, and next time be careful how you buy things. :-)
For me, absolute beginner your instruction has been of great help. Yet, I have two small questions. Your advice for Project Properties is: Match. I am shooting in 1440*1080 format (my camera specifications assign 1280*720 for SD, not HD films). Is it really necessary to keep the original format while editing? The Preview image is of poor quality (at least on my computer). And the other problem involves Quick Time Player. It wouldn't show films in the recommended rendered format (on YT films look great). Is there any way to change this, or any other player that could be used (except for @Super)?

Eugenia,
Despite all of your good advice and diligence, I must say you are beginning to sound just a bit jaded.
Rather than chastising our fellow users, why not try gently guiding them in the right direction without passing judgment on either the consumer or the merchant?
Just another helpful suggestion (the most recent of 32 by my count); although we live across the pond from each other, I'm "sure" I saw a picture of the karma bus parked across from your residence . . . .
Truth is, I give help to people in 5 video forums, and by email, daily. When someone doesn't pay attention to the tools, or the tutorial, or to what I tell him, then I get agitated. I am only human too, and when you do what I do so much (and for free), the patience span is getting small after 2 years. The tutorial I linked to the guy, clearly said that you need Platinum or Pro, for example, not the plain Movie Studio.
Another reason I got agitated with him specifically is because of my background (as with everything, you need to have a background story to understand why someone acts the way he/she does -- there's always a reason behind it). I grew up really poor (thankfully I do well now). Because of this, I am super-careful of what I buy. I read all the specs, I read everything I can find if I am to spend money on a tool. When I see someone who spent money without doing his homework first, without checking if the tool does what he actually needs, then I get pretty uncomfortable. It's money down the drain. And that's a blow to the way I react.

Well, that being the case by your own words, I would say you are beginning to take yourself just a bit too seriously.
I never understood this English expression of "taking yourself a bit too seriously". Of course I take myself seriously. If life was all fun and games, I would be a clown by trade, not a developer. And I spend a LOT of time helping others for free, more than most people do. And because of it, I reserve the right to be proud of that. So if that translates to you as "snobism", well, so be it.
Thank you for making me decide to leave this forum again. I have left this forum for over 6 months in the past, but I came back just because there were people needing help here. I think I am done here for good this time. I am thinking of moving to CS4 anyway (major problems with Vegas that simply stayed unresolved in the last 2 years).
Oh, for pete's sake, Eugenia, why don't you just admit you had a bad day, apologize to Dollerhide, and carry on? Having a meltdown just isn't necessary.
Your sincerity has never been questioned, and you do provide a helpful resource for beginners. Anyone who takes the time to write tutorials and share an interest in third party codecs deserves to be commended.
It's just the delivery that suffers at times. What was reflected in your response to Dollerhide, a first-time poster, was something quite different than being proud of your work. Others too have suffered from undeserved criticism. And when someone cares enough to hold up a mirror for you, be sure to take a good look.
If I've learned anything here in the past seven years, it is that the one-size solution does not fit all, and as soon as I'm sure I've got the answer, someone comes along with a more innovative one. That's what I meant by "evolve."
Since you profess to be a programmer from the early days, I am quite certain you know the meaning of the acronym TIMTOWTDI.
If you choose to live by the message contained in that phrase, then respect for others' views will follow as if by magic, and you will become a better teacher as a result. That's my experience anyway . . . ;?)
