Can't save in audio editor while file is open in Vegas

I've started using Izotope RX Advanced as my external audio editor, but when I right-click and open an audio event (or copy of event) in RX, edit it, then go to save it in RX, I get the error message "The current file cannot be saved. Please be sure it is not in use in another application and try again". It seems to work sometimes, but most of the time gives me this error, forcing me to close my Vegas session, save the file, then reopen Vegas every time I edit a file ...or save as a separate file and replace the file manually in vegas.

Any idea why this is happening and how to get it to be able to overwrite an audio file while Vegas has it open?

Using Vegas build 482.

A similar issue to this was raised a couple of weeks ago in another post:

It does seem to be a bit hit-and-miss as to when the audio editor is allowed to save and when it is blocked from doing so. From that other post, I suggested:

  • I have, however, sometimes experienced times when it refuses to save back to Vegas Pro and its then a matter of highlighting another audio event elsewhere Vegas Pro's timeline so that audio event being worked on on Sound Forge Pro is not active event on Vegas Pro's timeline.

It is hit and miss. Here was my response to an even more recent thread.

One trick years ago was to do a double Alt-Tab switching back and form between Vegas and the external editor.

Thanks so much! It works! This will save me soooo much time.
