Thanks for the swift reply stormstereo. I tried to follow SonyIMC's procedure as listed here:

1. Start menu run function (type "regedit" here and press enter
2. In regedit using the tree control on the left pane (the folders with the pluses next to them)
3. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" branch by clicking on the plus to the left.
4. Continue expanding branches until you get to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\Vegas\5.0\DXCache

5. Highlite the DXCache folder and press delete on the keyboard.
6. Agree to the msg "are you sure you want to delete this key and its sub keys?"
7. Re-run Vegas
This will cause vegas to "grovel" and reaquire all DirectX plugins.
It will then recreate a new DXCache folder for all the plugs it found.

Unfortunately, there isn't any "DXCache" registry entry at that location. I *did* find a "File Format Cache" branch which I tried deleting and which was recreated with the next Vegas startup. But, alas, no new DX plugins show up in Vegas. Note they are showing up in Sound Forge 7.0.

Thoughts?

That is really strange. I have the DXCache reg entry.

I'm thinking four things:
1. Maybe you looked in the wrong place in the registry? Probably not huh?
2. I'd read about and use the migration tools found under Start menu/All Programs/Sony/Utilities.
3. I'd try to install Vegas again, on top of itself. If that don't work I'd uninstall Vegas completely and reinstall. If that don't work I'd uninstall everything related to Sony and SoFo products and delete any remaining folders from the same but keep the dx plugs, then install Vegas and Sound Forge again.
4. Maybe we need to get SonyIMC in here?

Just on a curious note, have you looked in the 3rd party folder for FX to see if they're there?
Next suggestion is do as Tommy suggests, use the migration tools from the Utilities found in your Sony folder
