Can't see video in preview

NoBull408 wrote on 4/5/2009, 9:22 PM
1) I recorded onto Hi-8 digitial tape and then transferred that onto DVD.

2) DVD works fine (watched it on Windows Media Player, etc). So I went to "import media" on Vegas and I chose the biggest file from video TS file.

3) Imported ok. However once I take it and move it into my project... I only get audio no video. Odd because the video 'pictures' show up on my video timeline.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone!

Do you have Vegas Pro 8? In which check to see if you have the Monitor Option engaged in Trimmer. Uncheck that and you SHOULD get back Preview from the Timeline.

Could be the old/new Trimmer Preview setting problem.

Try opening the Trimmer and unchecking the "Show Video Monitor" icon

It works now (happened without me doing anything) but now peoples voices and the video aren;t syncing up.

Are any of your Timeline Events - Video or Audio - highlighted in PINK/RED? If so it would appear you have unchecked the Grouping Icon. This would separate your Video from your Audio.

When you want to get media from a DVD, use the "File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc" option.
I think you'll find that this will solve your problems.
BTW, next time, firewire the footage from your camcorder into your computer as it'll be cleaner and easier to edit than MPEG-2.

Mike,

Yeah I was going to try that option before but I thought it wont work right because it's not a cam DVD. ANyways, I just imported it and the sound is still out of sync. So maybe I can shuffle it around a little but by unlinking grouping events.

Also I would love to firewire it right to my PC but it wouldnt work for somne reason when the AV guy tried to help me with it.

NoBull408, this feature was originally designed for miniDVDs but works on full-size DVDs as well (as long as they're not copy-protected).

What happened when you tried to hook your camcorder to your computer?
Did you get any kind of error or other kind of message at all?

... the sound is still out of sync.

Make sure the audio sample rate in your project properties (File - Properties) is set to 48KHz.

Rs170a,

Thanks. I changed the properties and it's still out of sync.

I think the problem is, all of the footage is in one LONG (15 minute) 'clip', which is throwing off the audio.

Is that a possibility?

I've just realized what the problem is....the DVD itself.

I played the DVD in both Windows Media Player and Toshiba DVD player and the audio is out of sync.

Looks like I'll have to try it again.

Thanks
