CAN'T START MOVIE STUDIO 9 ON XP

GetLocal wrote on 1/2/2010, 11:19 AM
Wonder if anyone can help.

Just purchased Movie Studio 9 (download from Sony Website) and I get a Vegas Movie Studio 9 Error right when I see the progress bar about 99% complete...and it is initializing the software.

It stops and I get a Widows msg that states "Vegas Movie Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience."

This seems odd because I bought Sound Forge 9 and DVD Architect at the same time and they both open and operate fine.

Don't want to wait till Monday (Jan 4th @ 10am my time) to get help. Any geeks out there that can give me suggestions would be helpful.

(And Happy New Year to anybody reading this)

Try uninstalling and reinstalling. That often fixes it.

Hi Markk655,
Thanks for the response. I am currently loading the latest Update to see if the problem gets resolved.
If I uninstall the software, will it remove the download on my computer that I got from the the Sony site? It took a looong time for me to download. Can I take that file and move it elsewhere and then reload it?

Sorry...kind of a novice when it comes to file management and computer technical issues.

It's possible that some pre-requisite software isn't installed, or there's some kind of a version conflict. Read through the requirements and make sure each one is installed, e.g. DirectX 9c, QuickTime, .NET, etc.

The first thing to do on this web site is go to Support > Knowledgebase and search for startup/launch issues and you may find something useful.

Second, Find & Download "process explorer" from Microsoft. Run it, ask it to include the vegas executable (the VMS8 exe is named VegasMovieStudioPE80.exe, yours should be similarly named). Then launch VMS9 and look at the output of Process Explorer while it's hung loading up. What is it looking for? That might give you some clues.

Good luck, and let us know what the solution is.

PS: Keep posts about the same issue in one thread...multiple postings make it hard to follow progress.

No, it won't remove the actual downloaded file. Just the actual installed program. Once yo uuninstall it, reboot and then just double click the file you downloaded again.

If you're still have problems, you may have a corrupt download and have to re-download the software again. I've had to do this a couple of times w/ Vegas Pro 9.

Thanks, Byron and Markk665
I went through every post and tech support string and finally found instructions to delete all the files and folders and registry keys and re-installed the software.

It took a long time but I have it working now. Thanks for all the help...it was really appreciated.
