Can't Uninstall Older Vegas to Get Rid of Constant Magix Desktop Ad...

Soniclight-2.0 wrote on 3/19/2022, 8:40 AM

I have VP-19 Pro up-to-date on Windows 10. I keep getting nagged by the above shown ad even though its content can vary, and I'm guessing it's due to that I have Sony VP-10 (64 and 32 bit) still installed.

But I am unable to remove them for I get these two in sequence for both versions when trying to uninstall:

At one point prior to upgrading from Win 7 to 10, I messed up my C:\Windoes\Installer folder by trying to reduce its size. Perhaps that is why it is asking for CD-ROM location (so Windows 95).

This also affected an other important program for me that I had to upgrade alongside Vegas Pro - Steinberg Cubase Pro v.6 to v.11 (but I eventually figured a way around the latter's situation).

I hardly ever use the Windows programs remover, I use Revo Uninstaller for once a prog is uninstalled, I use its Advanced Scan mode to find any and all left-overs from the standard uninstall. It's amazing how much junk can be left over with some programs.

But at this point, I can't get to that mode for the standard uninstall is, well... stalled.

Help appreciated.

@jetdv - Thanks for reply and links. Touché on the Sony thing, though I thought maybe Magix would nudge someone to upgrade anyway.

Unfortunately none of the linked approaches have helped for I don't have any Notifier or updater running or installed. I'll check the next time I see the ad in Sysinternals Process Explorer (I've replaced the native Taskmanager with it for it's a more detailed and thorough) to see what is running that ad. There must be something...

Oh, and your username looks familiar from many years ago. You had developed some Vegas related plugin or script, though can't remember what it was. :)

Can you find Magix Connect in programs and features?

If not, check task scheduler- perhaps it is in there? This software is nothing that shipped with Vegas in recent years.

Ah, yes, Excalibur, now I remember.

As to the thread issue, the ad popped up and I did find "Connect" running in the Windows Task Manager (but not in Process Explorer for some reason) and even though I couldn't find it in my Revo Uninstaller. So I went into its program folder and ran the uninstall.exe and the whole program folder disappeared, so hopefully mission accomplished.

Glad you were able to get rid of Connect.
