Can't use Igorware File Joiner with Vegas

I found out about Igorware File Joiner through another thread and gave it a go:

http://www.igorware.com/file-joiner

I already transferred FZ1000 and GoPro 4k files to my computer. I find the individual GoPro files very difficult to work with in Vegas 12.

Vegas' Device Explorer doesn't join them, so I gave Igorwares program a try. Well, it seemed to work as I ended up getting one big mp4 file 20 gigs in size. However, when I tried to drag it Vegas wouldn't recognize them at first. I tried the file on a different computer and this time I was able to drag it into Vegas' timeline but the there is no audio track and the video is black. What's weird to is that the 20 gig file (size comfirmed under media properties) has a length of only 8 minutes (should've been about 80 minutes).

Did I do something wrong or are the mp4 files Igorware generates just not compatible in Vegas?

Thanks in advance.

That's where we need to work from. Do you mean files from your GoPro camera, or Cineform files you converted in GoPro Studio?

The first will probably never work right for most people on Vegas' timeline, and the second is designed specifically for timeline work in Vegas and other editors.

If you like, I'll tell you why your camera files are a real bear to decode for editing.

You should be using GoPro Studio to convert your files to CineForm so that they edit easily in Vegas Pro. That's why GoPro proves the program for free.

WRT your file joiner, which is new to me, I didn't see anything in their features indicating truncated GOP correction, re-indexing, or TS stream error correction (such as when your GoPro gets jolted).

Those things are of concern when decoding for editing, as well, even though player decoding may look fine.

Take a look at VideoRedo; however, I don't know if thy're joining 4K yet.

No, I never used the GoPro program. Just went directly from the SD card to my hard drive. If the GoPro program will join the files as one? Either way, I'll try it out and will look into VideoRedo.

Read the Studio literature that came with your camera, and post back with questions on the Vegas Pro side of things once you see how it works.

IgorWare Joiner is a concatenater, pure and simple. It is not video file aware and works with any large file that has been arbitrarily split into smaller chunks. It should only be used with those video files that started out life as a single entity but has been cut into smaller chunks because of file system limitations. Two examples I know of are DVD VOB files and Sony and Panasonic AVCHD files. There is no header at the start of the second and subsequent chunks.

Some cameras record MP4 files in small chunks but these need to be joined by a video joiner. I have no experience with them, but I would expect that the second and subsequent chunks have header information. GoPro files may be in this category.

Pretty basic DOS as I inferred from their website. Thanks for the confirmation, Peter
