Can the old Vegas Stabilize be made to appear

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/2/2018, 6:04 AM

I have V16 on trial and while the new Vegas Video stabilization is Ok it does not do what I need.

The older version which was carried over from Sony was really good at gently floating the image and I use it very often particularly to stop mild rotation of the image (all my shots are hand held). I currently own V15 and for me it is the best yet.

I also have Mercalli ver 4 as a plug in and standalone but this is not as effective as it tries too much to completely stabilize everything and often introduces artifacts/image distortion.

The old stabilize is still in the OFX folder but V16 uses the Magix version and does not show the old version in the OFX list in the program.

Is there any way I can get it to appear. Renaming folders ect does not work.

Many thanks.

I guess: No. But the new stabilization tool of Vegas Pro already was improved with latest build 261 which came out today (and will further be improved).

Hi,

Go to internal preferences (hold Ctrl+Shift and click Options>Preferences, go to Internal tab), and then search for 'Expose Legacy Stabilizer'

@set

Thank you very much! I have no words to thank you. The new stabilizer is still not as good as the old one. This tip you shared will help many here.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Knowing we can still have the old legacy version is great (Magix please keep it as an option for future) and means I will be much more likely to move to 16 from 15. the old version is not perfect and will crash (I use Sony 4K XAVC footage) on about 10% of clips but it is very effective. It is handy to have new version that might be able to deal with the 10% that the legacy version cannot. Andy

Could you give us an idea what the difference is for you?

It does'nt introduce artifacts to the image, it is good at removing rotation, it gently floats the image for high zoom images, no border problems. I also have mercalli v4 which tries to make the image rock solid but introduces image distortion (warping). All my shots are handheld and are generally very steady but often have slight rotation as it is difficult to keep camera always horizontal while shooting and at max zoom will always have some slight shake. The old stabilizer takes this out really well and produces near perfect results. Best result for me is default setting.

Could you upload an example for me and send me the link to me?

FWIW, I think the new stabilizer does a really good job. I have tried many (all?) stabilizers and the reality seems to be that different types of footage benefit from different stabilizers. To that end, options are good, so having the legacy (if practical) and new stabilizer (once you fix the zoom problem 😀) would be great.
