Can V5/6 do this......?

Can I in Vegas 6 use the trimmer in the timeline to simply slide/slip a clips in point & still maintain its original length & position on the time?

Currently in V5 I have to either make a sub clip or move the clip to a new track and adjust it that way; then edit it back into its track.

It would be nice to have that ability in v6 that I enjoy on my hard wear NLE.
Or can v5 I currently use do that?... and I just missed the slide edit button?

I got Vegas because it has so many parallels in work flow to my hard wear edit system.
There are four different refinements including the above mentioned, that would make Vegas an even sharper edit system. I would buy Vegas all over again if all four could be refined / added to Vegas.

Thanks

Of course Vegas can do that!

Put your cursor over the event.
Hold down the ALT key.
See the cursor change?
Hold down the mouse button and move forward and back.
In the video preview window you will see the new in and out frames.

You can do this in Vegas 5, already.
Hold the ALT key while clicking in the middle of the event, and drag to the left to shift the in/out point.
The Preview window will split in half, showing you the new in point on the left side and the out point on the right side.

OUTSTADING!!!
Thank you, that one thing will save me a lot of time.
Now just 3 more things and I’ll truly have editing nirvana with Vegas.

For a roll edit, park the cursor between two events/clips, and hold CTRL and ALT while dragging. This will change the out point of the event on the left and the in point of the event on the right.

What are the other two things you're seeking?
Logan5 wrote on 4/26/2005, 6:39 PM
Well its three things...

1. One key board key to freeze the clip where the cut line is. So basically freeze a clip with one key.

2. To be able to load a clip bin from a different project. For example: I have a clip bin with all my B-roll from an old project & different bind with all my interviews as well. I want to have both older bins loaded into my current project. Plus I have a new clip bin with new footage as well. Something like import bins from project X & Y. Then toggle between them all.

3. When I bring a clip with an alpha channel onto a track > have the alpha ON as a default.

4. ok this is low on my list: To be able to trim a clip in the clip bin without having to create a sub clip.

thanks for the "alt" options they are great tools.

Can't help you there...There are scripts that will capture/place a still on a cut point with one button, but that's not *quite* the same as what you're asking for, even if the end result is the same.

You can do this now, drag bins from one project to another. You'll need two iterations of Vegas open. OR, with Vegas 6 you can use the Media Manager to load commonly used media from project to project.

3. When I bring a clip with an alpha channel onto a track > have the alpha ON as a default.
You can do this now. In the Project Media/Media Pool, right click the media with the alpha channel. Choose Properties. Select the way in which you want the Alpha channel read, and then just barely above that, you'll see a small floppy icon next to a dropdown that says "stream." Click this icon to tell Vegas to always open that file type with the alpha enabled.

If you have Excalibur, just put the Velocity Wizard icon on your toolbar, or program it to your keyboard. Save the Velocity default with the Freeze button checked, and you are good to go.

Thank you DSE & Gary
I’ll look at Excalibur for a freeze option.

Being able to use other bins from other projects helps me immensely – I got hours of BetaSP digitized that I work with & projects that share a lot of that same footage.

As for having clips with alpha channels on by default I have yet to get that to work.
I followed the instructions and then load a different clip with alpha and still have to select the alpha. I followed the instructions:

Project Media/Media Pool, right click the media with the alpha channel. Choose Properties. Select the way in which you want the Alpha channel read, and then just barely above that, you'll see a small floppy icon next to a dropdown that says "stream." Click this icon to tell Vegas to always open that file type with the alpha enable

Note: I found the small floppy icon about the middle of the properties tab with Stream & Video 1 in a dropdown < is that the right one?
So are there any other settings that would need to be set?

(Using v5 & QuickTime movies & uncompressed avi stills with alpha)

Thanks
