Vegas Pro can read CinemaDNG if you installed an appropriate Windows codec.

Ok Marco, so not native, better than nothing, thanks. Any ideas on the codec?

In case anyone else following on is interested, I found this thread, reasonably recent, as usual “astar” was very informative and helpful.

Something weird here, I may have not inserted the url previously, or it was removed ?

Adobe offers a DNG codec which works fine for decoding CinemaDNG in Vegas Pro (except meta data support).

This one should work.

Thanks Marco, nice to have, maybe its time Magix included it as one of its many recognised file types.

If I install this codec, does Vegas automatically make readable any of these files, and can it then be rendered out?  I don't have any files yet to test, just like to be prepared, thanks for the link.

Marco. wrote on 4/10/2018, 5:31 PM

If the codec is installed Vegas Pro will read but not write such files. The codec offers decoding only.

Former user wrote on 4/10/2018, 5:37 PM

Yes, I phrased my previous post poorly, I meant to say render out to say Magix avc etc. not render out to CinemaDNG.

Marco. wrote on 4/10/2018, 5:42 PM

Yes, that works.

Former user wrote on 4/16/2018, 4:58 PM

It works ok, I installed the codec, reboot required, then imported a sample CinemaDng video clip, about 5 seconds long. I rendered it out to Magix avc .mp4 just to test. About 13 minutes to render! It makes rendering out to hevc look fast. I guess having to decode each .dng image, on the fly in memory causes the really massive slowdown. So its unusable realistically within Vegas because of the horrendous time to render. Anyway thanks Marco, still nice to get it working. Was the url removed or did I just forget to insert it previously? See 4th. post from top.

It isn't fast, yes. Of course it also depends on the frame size and frame rate and the encoder used. I tested with a 10 second 2k 25 fps shot and on my notebook using Magix AVC QuickSync it takes 3 minutes to render to 2k and 1 minute to render to 1280x720. But playback performance is even worse.

Don't know what happened to the URL of your post above. At least I didn't edit/remove it.

Yes, the test material I had was an inet download from the original BMPCC 2.7 K , I rendered out to FHD. Took around 7 minutes using Nvenc. I learned how to import /export image sequences in all of this, great feature of Vegas that I wasn’t previously familiar with. The url! maybe it’s an age thing😂
