my first foray into video. i'm trying to do a soundtrack to to the video so all i need is a low rez and no-frame-dropping preview window so i can create the audio tracks. i've got the following problem.

i've imported a quicktime video supplied by client (650MB) and dragged it onto the time line. when i press play i get nothing but black frames. playing it alone in the quicktime player i see the video.

i've tried pre-rendering, building dynamic RAM previews etc but i never see anything in the preview window.

i then took it into the trimmer and and i can see the video there but still not in the time line.

what i want to do is this. re-render the video down from 720 wide to 240 wide so it won't drop frrames and have it played in the preview window.

can anyone shed any light?

You need to have the FULL Quicktime authoring package installed. When reading the QT in the trimmer, it's using QT to read the codec.
At any frame rate, you will have issues with a QT file not dropping any frames. Render it to a DV file, and you'll keep full frame playback.
Go to www.quicktime.com and download the 'recommended' package for QT, and you'll be able to read the file from the timeline, assuming your client/friend isn't using a strange QT-packaged codec.
