Can VV4 Use DirectShow Filters?

I stumbled across a DirectShow filter that I would like to try: The AlparySoft Denoise video filter. The VirtualDub version of this filter is handy for cleaning up some VHS footage that I'll be processing, but if I could use the DirectShow version of this filter in VV4, that might be much more efficient. I am very new to video editing, so I apogize if I seem ignorant.

I have the demo version of VV4 and should be getting the full version in about a week. I understand that the demo version may not have all the features of the full version, like full DirectX plugin support. I also couldn't find any specific help items about this in the VV4 demo or by seraching this forum.

Well, Vegas does use the DirctShow interfaces for all it's plugins but I'm not sure that the Alpary stuff ( *.ax files ) will work without some sort of wrapper to make them useable in Vegas. I've just tried registering the .ax file with Vegas (which, pops up a dialog saying something like 'this file supports self-registration - do you want Vegas to register it for you') but could not find it anywhere in the Vegas FX plugin list.

Fortunately, Satish provides 'some sort of wrapper' in the form of his frameserver plugin (http://www.debugmode.com/pluginpac) which will allow you to use VirtualDub plugins directly with Vegas.

To my knowledge you can use Satish' plugin to run V/dub filters as Scott suggested, but otherwise Vegas makes any DX filters available only for audio. Personally I use these sorts of filters most often with Graphedit.

Thanks for your replies and the helpful information. I appreciate it.

Now, I'll go learn about Graphedit... :-)
