just trying to cut a clip from one part of the edit, and paste it at the current time marker.
The thing is, i want it to "paste back" from the current time marker (or in marker)
Basically i'm cutting clip "A". Then clicking the first frame clip "B". I want to paste in clip "A" so that it pastes before clip "B" without pasting over clip "B"
The end result would be the last frame of clip "A" pasted next to the first frame of clip "B"
Now, how is this different to just butting "B" up to the end of "A"? Are you wanting to . . e x t e n d . . . the duration of the final frame of "A"? I can see this ... I use it a lot. But other than the hassle you appear to be giving yourself, you HAVE confused me! Try again . . if you wish.
I want to move clip E between clip A and C. NOTE that each "-" represents a space i could fit the letter E into. So in this example all clips are the same length, and there are 3 blank spaces, each equaling the length of a single clip.
I select clip E, then do "Edit cut" or "control x"
I select the first frame of clip C because i want to paste clip E back from that point.
I dont want to disturb the edit, so i dont want any rippling. I dont want to paste clip E and force it to blend into clip C.
I simply want it to look like this...
A--ECD
I know you can juggle them around by hand. I can cut E and move to into the blank spaces and then move it to snap to the end of the next clip. But is there a quick keyboard command that will allow me to paste a clip back from the current time, in the timeline ? It would be much quicker to paste back from an in point, or the current time marker.
So basically i'm looking for a way to select the first frame of clip C and do a "paste back from here" like command that moves clip E into the proper position right beforce clip C.
Hope that helps? :) heheh so tricky to talk about this stuff.
J-C-F . . oh now I understand. I am unaware of key stroke to do this. I was just experimetning wioth trimmer and empty events and using "E" as a Take. But all of this takes time. Problem I see is that you need to have a t/l reference to place "E" - something like a marker at the beginning of "C" . . .then I kinda got stuck! Maybe a case of a script: "Remove this clip from Position 1 and put it at Position 2"
This may or may not help.
You can select clip E as loop region , right click , open in trimmer and put cursor at begining of clip C then shift A adds media to cursor . Still you must delete the original clip E as this copies not cuts.
Probably not what your after .

Would be nice if shift A worked from clipboard as well as from trimmer.
yeah too many steps. I did notice that the trimmer has the ability to add to the time line back from the time marker. Unfortunately one can not cut from the time line and paste back from the timeline marker.
It would be a nice feature for future releases. It's not a big deal but it is a hole in the workflow that could be filled.
In Avid, if i remember right.. you mark an OUT point on your time line, and then paste. It will then align the end of the pasted clip to the out marker in the timeline.
