Can you turn "building peaks" off?

I really don't need waveform info on at all times. In fact, only when I'm cutting audio, does it really matter.

But it takes time to load the info - is there any way to totally avoid "peak building"?

If not, which is the fastest build 8 bit or other?

As soon as Vegas starts building the peaks a "cancel" button appears at the bottom left of the Vegas window. Punch it. Unfortunately, you will have to "punch it" every time you load the project.

YES. There is a simple check box under the preferences window.

View window: "Waveforms and frames" can be clicked on or off. 8-bit files build a little faster, as I recall, and are smaller in size on the hard disk.
