Cannot float Video Preview to second screen.

REALOldNick wrote on 3/19/2019, 3:32 AM

I could before, but now I can't move it from top right hand side of the project window. In Preview Device Preferences I have asked it to be on screen 2. I have tried click-holding its tab and dragging, or trying to drag it by the top bar.

Any help appreciated.

I find I need to drag the tab down before I can move it sideways.

Ah. How unintuitive, but thanks . Rats. I had just discovered the answer and shot back here to post the news. Sorry and thanks again.

I managed to do as you suggested.... but my goal is to use the video preview on my 2nd monitor...

in preferences , preview device in the device box it only shows windows graphics card and OHCI compliant IEEE 1394/DV. In my VMS 12 platinum under the same box I have a 3rd choice: windows secondary display.....

in details box: Device connected....

How do I fix this.... ?

Help appreciated....

My VMSPlat 16 shows similar. There's no Windows Secondary Display. But with the Device shown as "Windows Graphics Card" I get both my monitors in the Display adapter/Identify Displays dropdown box. I'm on Win10.

I found out that my monitors displays order is wrong in VMS 16.... when I click on video preview on external monitor icon under the video preview tab, it opens the video on my main monitor which is set as #2....... the external monitor is on #1

Windows 10 settings , display, select and rearrange displays.... it shows that my "main" monitor is #2.... and the 2nd monitor is #1.....THIS IS THE WAY I WANT IT.... AS IT WORKS FINE WITH VMS 12 and the rest of my work.....

How do I change the order of the monitors displays in VMS 16?

EricLNZ wrote on 4/6/2019, 1:47 AM

From your description VMS is following the setup you have arranged in Windows 10, so is behaving correctly. I gather you are asking for the order to be different in VMS16 to other Windows programmes. You probably cannot.

Nel. wrote on 4/6/2019, 1:48 PM

well..... if my settings in windows 10 display work fine with VMS12 why is it not with VMS16?

Maybe something has been changed.
My mainscreen is a 4K connected to the Nvidia Videocard and the second is FDH, but in Windows that second screen is connected to my mainboard connection.

I think Windows sees and called it therefore screen 1 and my main screen as 2.
That I cannot change other than switch those connections.

I managed to change the order of the monitor by simply clicking on the 2. monitor in the preferences, preview device.

Now it shows on the first line

Half success here..... I can partially see the video on the 2nd monitor but it does not display the whole image.... it is high on the right corner.... about the first half of the image.... I can't move the screen when I click on it.....

I have to (press escape in full screen mode ) to get out or I click on the external monitor icon on the vider preview tab...

Now.... how do I correct the half screen?

Patiently.... progress.....

Are your "all settings" of Windows 10 have all the right settings for second screen concerning the monitor settings for
- zoomfactor
- resolution
- angle, a.s.o.?

PS. this screenshot is of my laptop where I only use 1 screen. With more screens activated you will have more settings.

This is what my display settings show...I don't know where to find angle, a, s, o ?

My computer knowledge is limited....

.... . as I say.... I work with VMS 12 without a problem with these settings.... VMS 16 is not accepting them....

Thanks

And when you select ( blue colour) your display 2, how are the 2 pictures look like?

j-v would you kindly rephrase your question..... I don't get it.... Sorry....

j-v wrote on 4/8/2019, 2:33 PM

In your first screenshot here you see screen 1 and 2.
Your screen 1 is blue, that means it is selected and that also do show the specs in your second and third picture there.
Selecting the other one, nr. 2 will show you the specs for that screen 2.
For those specs I was asking because those specs shows how that display will be used in Windows ( and I think also in Vegas).
